We consider Alabama’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to be the foundation for our state’s future. CTE is focused on developing the skills of K-12 students and strives to prepare them for postsecondary learning and workforce opportunities. It also provides them essential leadership skills through participation in student organizations. CTE is learning that works for Alabama

 

Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources - http://www.alsde.edu/sec/cte/Pages/afnr.aspx

​The Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources cluster prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber and natural resources systems.  Agriculture and related industries employ 22 percent of Alabama’s workforce and contribute $70.4 billion to the state’s economy annually, which is about 40 percent of the state’s GDP.​

The Arts, Audio-Video Technology, and Communications cluster engages students in challenging curricula where they are able to develop technical skills in the areas of graphic arts, television production, animation, advertising design, and commercial photography within a safe and innovative setting. Students who choose to complete a pathway in this cluster have the ability to comprehend course materials and complete laboratory work, projects, and assignments related to the cluster. Courses in this cluster provide students with the knowledge and skills for further education and for employment. Students use current and emerging technology, observe modeling and mastery of competencies, and develop and apply skills required for success in their chosen fields. Students work together to build a community of learning where their ideas become a source of learning.​

​The Business Management and Administration cluster prepares learners for careers in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating business functions essential to efficient and productive business operations. Career opportunities in this cluster are available in every sector of the economy and require specific skills in organization, time management, customer service, and communication. Rigorous instruction is provided to equip learners with knowledge and skills for college and career readiness. Extended learning experiences to enrich and enhance instruction is reinforced through learner participation in career and technical student organizations (DECA and FBLA). ​

​The Finance cluster prepares learners for careers in financial and investment planning, banking, insurance, and business financial management. Career opportunities are available in every sector of the economy and requires individuals working in finance to have strong computation, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Rigorous instruction is provided to equip learners with knowledge and skills for college and career readiness. Extended learning experiences to enrich and enhance instruction is reinforced through learner participation in career and technical student organizations (DECA and FBLA).​

​The Health Science cluster provides students with essential knowledge and skills for pursuing careers in the following five pathways:  Therapeutic Services, Diagnostic Services, Health Informatics, Support Services, and Biotechnology Research and Development.  Rigorous and challenging content may include a variety of instructional strategies, work-based learning experiences, and simulation.​

​The Hospitality and Tourism cluster prepares high school students for the management, marketing and operations of restaurants and other food services, lodging, attractions, recreation events and travel related services using real work, hands-on knowledge and skills in commercial and professional lab settings.   This diversified and intensive education program enables students to pursue careers in one of three pathways:  1) Restaurant, Food, and Beverage Services 2) Lodging and 3) Recreation, Travel, and Tourism.  ​

​The Manufacturing cluster provides the knowledge and skills to equip students for careers in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, electronics, precision machining, and robotics. These courses include significant technical depth and engineering concepts and terminology. The Manufacturing cluster provides a safe and appropriate setting for student exploration and achievement. Students gain knowledge and skills through an active, structured, and stimulating environment coordinated with simulated workplace learning experiences. The Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics cluster learning environment utilizes a variety of physical space to stimulate development of effective cognitive and psychomotor skills. Students experience a wide range of hands-on activities based on authentic representations of expectations found in the workplace. Theory and concepts are taught in proportion to the need for strong application opportunities with emphasis on timely learning experiences that facilitate the transition to skills attainment. Safety, proper tool use, and adherence to procedures are integral components for all student learning experiences.​

The Marketing cluster is about planning, managing and performing marketing activities to reach organizational objectives. Marketing-related jobs are vital for companies, nonprofit groups, and organizations.  Job duties in this career cluster can include brand promotion, sales, merchandising, marketing communications, and market research. As companies find it increasingly important to focus on community outreach and customer relations, the need for marketing professionals will increase.​
